Accessibility

The Pembroke & Area Airport (CYTA) is owned by six municipalities — the Town of Petawawa, the City of Pembroke, the Town of Deep River, the Township of Laurentian Valley, the Township of Whitewater Region, and the Town of Laurentian Hills — and is governed by the Pembroke & Area Airport Commission. As a publicly-owned airport, the Commission is a designated public sector organization under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and is committed to providing an accessible website and welcoming facilities for all members of our community, including people with disabilities, in accordance with the AODA’s Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (O. Reg. 191/11).
Our Commitment
We are committed to treating all people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity, and we are committed to meeting the accessibility needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner.
Accessibility Policies
The Commission has established accessibility policies that govern how the airport meets the requirements of the AODA’s Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation. These policies, including our statement of organizational commitment, are available to the public on request and can be provided in an accessible format or with communication supports on request.
Multi-Year Accessibility Plan
The Commission maintains a multi-year accessibility plan that outlines our strategy to prevent and remove barriers and to meet our obligations under the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation. The plan is reviewed at least once every five years and is developed in consultation with people with disabilities. A copy of the plan is available on request, and in an accessible format on request — please contact us using the details below.
Website Accessibility Standards
We aim to conform our website to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA, which is the standard required for public-sector websites under the AODA’s Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation. Where practicable, we also work toward the more recent WCAG 2.1, Level AA. Our efforts include keyboard navigation, descriptive text for images, sufficient colour contrast, and a clear, consistent page structure. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we continue to review and improve the site. (The AODA exempts live captions and pre-recorded audio descriptions from this standard.)
Accessibility at the Airport
Our terminal building offers accessible parking and step-free access to public areas. If you require assistance or specific accommodations during your visit, please contact us in advance and we will do our best to help.
Accessible Formats and Communication Supports
On request, the Pembroke & Area Airport will provide, or arrange to provide, information and communications — including the content on this website and our accessibility policies and multi-year accessibility plan — in accessible formats or with communication supports. We will do so in a timely manner that accounts for your accessibility needs, at no more than the regular cost charged to other people, and we will consult with you to determine a format or support that is suitable. Accessible formats and communication supports are available on request — please contact us using the details below.
