Walk The Runway: September 2nd

Walk The Runway on Wednesday, September 2nd

Come out and walk the mile of runway in support of Project Runway, our repaving fundraiser. Choose a 1.4km or 4.15km route. The runway will be lit up at dusk so you can walk it at night or come out earlier and walk it in the daylight. Here are the details:

About The Runway

The runway is 5,000 feet long (one mile) and 100 feet wide so we can easily accommodate physical distancing rules. Masks will not be required during the walk. The event is being held rain or shine and proceeds will go to help repave the runway. For more on Project Runway, click here. Emergency aircraft landing protocols will also be in place (if required).

How To Register

Everyone must register in advance so we can manage the number of people on site. Here are the steps to registering for the walk:

Step 1: Choose your walking time slot

You can choose the hour when you would like to walk. Options are as follows:

  • 4:00pm-5:00pm
  • 5:00pm-6:00pm
  • 6:00pm-7:00pm
  • 7:00pm-8:00pm
  • 8:00pm-9:00pm
  • 9:00pm-10:00pm

Step 2: Choose your walking route

There are two walking route options. They are as follows:

  • Griffon Walk: 1.4km. This walk includes the taxiway and part of the runway.
  • Chinook Walk: 4.15km. This walk includes the taxiway, the full length of the runway  and then back to the taxiway

Step 3: Register in advance

Email marketing@flycyta.ca to register. Indicate your walking time slot, route and number of people you are registering for the walk. You can send your entry ($20 per adult; $10 for those aged 12 and under) by email transfer or with cash on the day of the event. Your registration will be confirmed and further details will be provided.

A Few Notes

  • The walk is entirely on asphalt. No running, bikes or wheeled options are permitted. This is a walk only.
  • If walking at dusk or later, the runway will be lit with aviation lights. You are welcome to bring a flashlight with you as well.
  • There will be no congregating during or after the walk due to COVID-19 protocols.
  • Parking will be available at the terminal building and the maintenance yard. People will assist with parking.
  • If there is an aviation landing emergency, you will be directed off the runway and the walk will continue after the aircraft has landed. People will be on-site to assist with this.
  • Pets are not permitted on the walk.

Questions?

Please direct any questions to Jennifer Layman by email at marketing@flycyta.ca or phone/text to 613-312-7824. While the airport is operating, the airport terminal building is not open to the public at this time so this is your easiest way to have questions answered about Walk YTA.
